Calvin Klein can get you laid
The latest controversial billboard for Calvin Klein has people talking. The gigantic ad—located in Manhattan—“ shows a young woman lying on top of a man, while kissing another man. All three models are topless. Another male model reclines on the floor with his jeans unbuttoned.” – Marketing Magazine.
They say that any publicity is good publicity, but at what stage does it just turn into negative backlash?
People say that sex sells, but CK has me wanting to buy a Playboy rather than jeans. Plus I am sure that I will not get into one of these scenarios if I was wearing these jeans, nor would I look as good…
What do you think? Hot or Not? Does anybody have a cigarette??

June 18, 2009 9:05 amIt’s inappropriate for a public setting. Maybe as an ad in Maxim or GQ where it is more of an adult viewership it would be more appropriate.
But that image is not something that children should be subjected to.

June 18, 2009 4:25 pmIf anything it’s aspirational marketing. Rationally, we understand that we won’t look as good in those jeans, nor are we likely to find ourselves in that scenario (esp. those of us with significant others).
But if we acted rational all the time, we’d never drink Budweiser and wear Axe Deodorant because of the scores of hot women we’ll hook up with, or order that Bowflex at 3 am to sculpt our abs after eating a big Thanksgiving meal. The fact of the matter is, we’re irrational creatures when it comes to our insecurities.
Which leads us to Calvin. As much as we know it’s not true, we just can’t help but think, ‘if I just wear those jeans, maybe I’ll be that damn desirable, too.’
And that’s about as aspirational as it gets.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to buy some jeans…
